Swan hassles Mandarin duckling

During a recent visit to Hyde Park, I saw the Mandarin duck family swimming peacefully along the Serpentine.  The duckling was on the left, mum was in the centre and daddy drake was on the right.

Suddenly, for no apparent reason, a big bad Mute swan decided to harass the duckling - which made a swift escape from the danger by virtually running along the surface of the water.

The duckling got away and the swan sailed off into the distance.  Mum and dad Mandarins climbed onto the bank, followed by the youngster.  Dad stood quite a distance away while mum waddled along the path and placed herself between me and her baby.  She obviously was not ready for anyone else to make unwelcome approaches to the duckling.
