During a recent visit to Rainham Marshes, I was in the Marshland Discovery hide and saw a Little Grebe through the window. It was very difficult to take photos because it kept diving and disappearing from sight. Also, the window was covered in a distracting pattern of thick netting (so as not to disturb the Kingfishers that are nesting there, I guess). Anyway, it left little space available for moving a camera around quickly and easily without getting it caught up in the net.
I did manage to take a few photographs and must apologise for the quality. All are taken through the glass.

Little Grebe in front of the reeds |
As usual, I am good at getting the back views of birds!

Little Grebe swimming off into the far beyond |
The Grebe did come back again and was paddling hard and making fast progress across the water.

Also in this area was a lone cygnet. It appeared to have lost it's parents and gave the occasional cheep between a bit of preening and a bit of looking very cute. Eventually, when I was not looking, it swam off at a very fast pace along the water channel and, hopefully, was re-united with mum.

I do hope it found it's parents.
